Fashion Plates
Fashion plates were included in magazines and periodicals of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, such as Godey's, Peterson's and Harper's Bazar. These images were published to inform the ladies of the fashion for the season and to inspire them to create gowns in these styles. Often it was possible to obtain patterns of the gowns featured in the fashion plates.
|
Fashion Plates are drawings or steel engravings that were created in both full color plates as well as black and white.
Some examples of actual full sheet Fashion Plates can be seen in the plate to the right and in the display page below.
The Fashion Plates that I have chosen for my website are only full color plates and have been cropped from their original page to better display the fashion of the time period and not the entire plate.
