This marvelous two piece striped satin ensemble has an amazing bodice that is beautifully tailored to the waist with long tails that drape down the back, over the skirt and end at the floor (as seen in the 1884 Fashion Plate to the left and the photos below). The bodice has a wired standup collar trimmed with lace and lace adorns the cuffs as well.
The skirt panels alternate with the striped satin and draping silk. This gown also came with its own bustle pad. Typically this pad would have been placed slightly below the waist in the back to enhance the protruding bustle...however, for display purposes I have placed the pad in the mannequin's hand in the photos at the bottom of the page.
