This graceful one-piece sea-side toilette is made of white lightweight cotton and lace.
The front and back are adorned with lush rows of fluffy ruffles, lace edging and creamy silk bows.
This soft and oh so feminine dress is unlined and has no boning... it was obviously meant to be cool, comfortable and worn in summer at the sea-side.

The 1880's photo to the left show ladies in similar gowns of this time period. They are posed in front of a sea-side backdrop.

Note: I use the word "comfortable"...this lady would still have worn a corset and undergarments under this dress but because the fabric is lightweight the gown is very airy compared to most bustle gowns of the period...and perfect for a stroll on the boardwalk on a warm summer day.
Notice the lovely 1880 silhouette of this toilette as in the original Fashion Plate to the left.
