In Victorian times there was not a separate style of clothing for children as there is today.
In those days children wore basically miniature adult clothing. Little girls and young ladies wore the same decorative style dresses as their mother wore. It was not until the Edwardian period that children's clothing became more relaxed and not as restricting and cumbersome as adult clothing.
During the Victorian Era it was customary for young boys up to four or six years old to wear dresses (see below).
